A New Man by Hughes William Thompson

An award-winning exploration of loneliness.

I’ve always loved spending time at cafés. Besides the draw of a good espresso or latte -- and the opportunity to break the monotony of working at home -- I enjoy observing the people around me, especially the habits and quirks of the regular customers who frequent my favorite local coffee shops or breakfast spots. I have yet, however, to actually assume any of their identities, which is the case with the main character of A New Man, an award-winning short film directed by Hughes William Thompson.

Supported by the Kevin Spacey Foundation and based on a short story by Etgar Keret, this humorous and beautifully-crafted film is a compelling exploration of one man’s loneliness. After a particularly painful breakup with his wife, Charles begins a new morning routine at a local coffee shop to avoid being alone -- an experiment that yields some rather unexpected results. A New Man is a typically off-beat creation from Thompson -- a talented young director, writer, and photographer from New York -- and it’s a unique piece we hope you enjoy as much as we did.
