Founded in 1985, David Linley’s eponymous label was established with the intent of creating high-quality home goods. The brand is noted for its careful attention to detail, as displayed in its use of expert laser-cutting techniques, while its love of wood celebrates the material for its “character, tactility and natural warmth.” Upon discovering the range recently at Mr. Porter, I was also impressed by the playfulness of the pieces, which makes them ideal gifts, as well as a way of injecting some humor into one’s home.
Among my personal favorites are items like the ziricote wood Rainey Day Money Box – which, of course, references the saying “saving for a rainy day” – a handmade wooden card sleeve inlaid with “card sharks” and an expertly hand-crafted calendar that was inspired by the label’s ‘Perpetual’ design from 2003. Other quirky designs include a walnut wood block crafted to the exact dimensions of a traditional British brick, along with more practical pieces like wooden watch winders and whiskey glasses.
