365 notebook

Gentle but sturdy is an admirable quality that can be seen in both human and objects.

365 notebook is a notebook that possesses such quality. Produced by a hundred-year-old calendar maker, the notebook features paper material used in the traditional “tear off daily” calendar, which easily appeals to people who are fond of wax paper. This paper material is called “Junpakushi”, which means paper of pure whiteness. The translucent “Junpakushi” has two distinctive characters, smooth on one side and rough on the other. It is commonly seen in our daily life to wrap clothes and flowers, or to be placed between bread and bakery trays. Apparently, the texture of “Junpakushi” is designated for encasing objects that are held dear to people.

The A6 and A7 size right here are my two favourites among many different sizes. Their pocket-sized design allows me to enjoy scribbling anytime anywhere unhindered. Every notebook has as many as 380 sheets thinner than the thermal paper used in receipts; thanks to the extreme thinness of the paper material, it would not be a burden to carry this notebook around, especially during summertime when a heavy bag can easily trigger grumpiness. The 365 notebook also offers a premium version which has an additional hardcover as protection.

The smooth side of the paper is a perfect surface for writing with pencil or ball pen; the rough side is on the other hand ideal for writing with fountain pen, for its texture can well prevent diffusion over the paper. The translucent paper can also be used as tracing paper; with the complimentary cardboard that comes with the notebook, one will not leave a dent on the next page when writing. “Satogami”, a paper material that has a velvet texture, is used on the notebook cover. Every colour has a unique meaning: the ones above are “Sakura” that representing the cherry blossom season, “Sumi”, which is the charcoal grey colour tone that is common in Japan, and “Kinari” that signifies the unpolluted original colour that has the power to generate like the Mother Nature.

Every single detail works together to make it a notebook that acts as your daily companion, and exists for ordinary daily life. Passing through the bygone times and times that will soon be history, one is reminded to live a good life when recording memories to minute detail. The notebook is inspired by the traditional calendar, but is a dissimilar keepsake of time.
