“Even if I repair it
There being the clothes which I want to wear happy
Even if I repair it
The person who made clothes letting you wear it is happy again
Quietly, I do the work that is honor to join the meantime together.”
From Repairs (2017), an exhibition of Kaoru Yokoo.
Born in 1979 in Tokyo, Japan, artist Kaoru Yokoo developed a specialization in the art of repair via embroidery or crochet since 2005.
Cosmic Wonder, a creative project that comprises various modes of expression including clothing, artwork, publishing, and performance, is devoted to using natural materials and dye in creating their garment work. For pieces that couldn’t be sold due to stains and tears, Cosmic Wonder would invite Yokoo to work her magic in bringing new life to them.

The collaboration between Kaoru Yokoo and Cosmic Wonder started with the 2017 series, A Organic Universe. This year, they worked together for the 2020 spring/summer series, Tenijiku Light and autumn/winter series, Spiritual Discourse. The two series share the theme of “The Awakening Universe” and showcase Yokoo’s aesthetic sentiment and sense of humor.
The garment work comes with no specific quantity; they are created according to demand, and the production will cease when they are sold out.
This is how the fashion world should operate. So does the creation process.
